‘One nation, One Student ID’- APAAR
What?- Full form=Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR)-part of the ‘One nation, One Student ID’ initiative of the Union government as per the new National Education Policy of 2020.
Purpose ?- to track academic progress from pre-primary education to higher education using a lifelong APAAR ID- would also serve as a gateway to Digilocker where all student certificates are stored.
Long term objective?- allowing state governments to track literacy rates, dropout rates and to reduce fraud and duplicate educational certificates
Other benefits- No need of transfer certificates if student changes schools.
How will it work?-APAAR ID will uniquely identify individuals and link to the Academic Bank Credit system(Click here and read point 5) , digitally recording their academic credits.

UNESCO names Kozhikode ‘city of literature’
UNESCO's Creative Cities Network : Created in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.
It was launched to promote UNESCO’s goals of cultural diversity and strengthen resilience to threats such as climate change, rising inequality, and rapid urbanisation. It encourages a culture of creativity in urban planning and solutions to urban problems.
Apart from Kozhikode and Gwalior, Varanasi (music), Srinagar (crafts and folk arts) and Chennai (music) are part of the network.
Why kozhikode?- North Kerala city of Kozhikode is home to many promiment personalities of the state’s literary and cultural world. The city, where several leading media houses are headquartered, has 100s of publishing banners and several libraries .

Carpathian Convention
Context : Recently COP-6 of the convention took place.
What?- It is a sub-regional treaty that promotes the protection and sustainable development of the Carpathian region.
Parties : It is signed by the seven Parties (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Ukraine) in May 2003 in Kyiv, Ukraine, and entered into force in January 2006. It is the only multi-level governance mechanism covering the whole of the Carpathian area

What?- treatment for cocaine and crack addiction- aims to disrupt the effects of cocaine by triggering an immune response in the body
How?- By preventing the drug from reaching the brain and providing the pleasurable “high” associated with its use. When injected, the drug produces antibodies as immune response. These antibodies attach to cocaine in your blood, making it bigger. This makes it impossible for cocaine to get into the part of your brain responsible for feeling rewarded or high (mesolimbic system).

Which organism?- Vibrio natriegens bacterium reproduces quickly and thrives in saltwater-Enzymes from another bacterium, Ideonella sakaiensis, were incorporated into Vibrio natriegens to break down PET Vibrio natriegens produced enzymes on the surface of its cells to break down PET in saltwater at room temperature
Three significant hurdles remain: incorporating the DNA into Vibrio natriegens genome, modifying it to feed on byproducts and produce a desirable end product
Collaboration with industry groups to determine marketable molecules is possible
