Budget 2024- How is our money spent?

High interest payments can:
Reduce the money available for welfare programs and services.
Decrease funds for capital expenditures (CapEx), which are crucial for long-term investments in infrastructure and development.
Affect the country's sovereign credit ratings negatively, making borrowing more expensive.
Create a cycle of debt where the government ends up borrowing more to pay off existing loans.

Relevant concept here : Ricardian equivalence- It is an economic theory suggesting that government borrowing doesn't affect the overall level of demand in the economy because people anticipate higher taxes in the future to pay off the debt, leading to an increase in savings.

This question is application based- these trees are Tropical Deciduous Dry Trees/tropical thorn forests( Info in NCERTS)- In India, the dry deciduous forests mostly occupy the North India and southern regions of Deccan Plateau. They are also found in plains of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and northeastern parts of the Peninsular plateau. So this questions tests 1) your geography knowledge and 2) Map awareness. VVPAT

VVPATs are an addition to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which allow voters to verify their vote. When a vote is cast, the VVPAT prints a slip with the voter's choice that is visible for a few seconds before it drops into a sealed box, ensuring the vote is recorded accurately.

Opposition demand : Count all VVPAT ( this is similar to ballot vote counting manually- which defeats the whole point of EVM)

EC response : EC's response to the 100% counting demand was that it would be a regressive step, akin to returning to manual ballot counting, which is more prone to human error and is time-consuming. They also emphasized that during random checks of VVPATs, no discrepancies were found in the votes cast for candidates, suggesting the current system's reliability.
