‘Greening and Restoration of Wasteland with Agroforestry’ (GROW) report
What?- GROW initiative by NITI Aayog-to assess agroforestry suitability across all districts in India.
Why?- Around 17% of India’s total geographical area is wasteland.- This initiative is Needed for the aim to restore 26 million hectares of degraded land by 2030 and create an additional carbon sink- for context- read this Wasteland Atlas-2019
3 main types of agroforestry systems :
1. Agrisilvicultural systems : Crops+ Trees
2. Silvopastoral systems- trees+ animals
3. Agrosilvopastoral systems= Crops+Trees+animals
