What?- Full form=Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR)-part of the ‘One nation, One Student ID’ initiative of the Union government as per the new National Education Policy of 2020.
Purpose ?- to track academic progress from pre-primary education to higher education using a lifelong APAAR ID- would also serve as a gateway to Digilocker where all student certificates are stored.
Long term objective?- allowing state governments to track literacy rates, dropout rates and to reduce fraud and duplicate educational certificates
Other benefits- No need of transfer certificates if student changes schools.
How will it work?-APAAR ID will uniquely identify individuals and link to the Academic Bank Credit system(Click here and read point 5) , digitally recording their academic credits.
