Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur flagged off an inaugural shipment from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata to operationalise the Sittwe Port in Myanmar.

About:
Port of Kolkata or Kolkata Port, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust (Formerly Kolkata Port Trust), is the only riverine major port of India, located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, around 203 kilometres from the sea.

It is the oldest operating port in India and was constructed by the British East India Company in 1870.

Kolkata is a freshwater port with no variation in salinity.

The port has two distinct dock systems — Kolkata Docks at Kolkata and a deep water dock at Haldia Dock Complex, Haldia.

Syama Prasad Mukherjee:

Syama Prasad Mukherjee (1901 – 1953) was an Indian politician, barrister and academician.

He served as the Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.

He quit the Union Government because of differences of opinion with the Nehru-led government and founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party, in 1951.

Agra Fort:

It is a large 16th-century fortress of red sandstone located on the Yamuna River in the historic city of Agra, west-central Uttar Pradesh.
It is about 5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal.
It was built under the commission of Emperor Akbar in 1565.
It was only during the reign of Akbar’s grandson, Shah Jahan, that the site took on its current state.
It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi.

Features:

The fort is crescent-shaped, with a long, nearly straight wall facing the Yamuna river on the east side.
The fort houses a maze of buildings, including vast underground sections.
The outer wall is surrounded by a wide and deep moat on three sides.
The Agra Fort has four main gateways- the Khizri Gate, Amar Singh Gate, Delhi Gate and Ghazni Gate.
The fort complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

Recently, Government started the process of arming members of VDGs with assault rifles in Jammu region and CRPF to provide arms training to VDGs in the wake of recent terror attacks in the region.

The aim of VDGs is to organize a small group of volunteer armed civilians in the identified villages along the borders as well as in-depth areas of the Jammu division, with a view to instill a sense of self-protection and ensure safety and security of such villages.

VDGs shall be charged with the responsibility of protecting community installations and infrastructural facilities within the defined areas of their village.

The Village Defence Committees (VDCs) were set up in the 1990s to arm villagers for self-defense purposes in the J&K region.

In 2020, the policy of Village Defence Committees was revamped and Village Defence Groups were introduced, members of whom are called Village Defence Guards (VDGs).

Based on assessment by law enforcement agencies, a group of armed civilians belonging to the ‘more vulnerable areas’ not more than 15 in number in each group, who shall be designated as VDGs shall be formed.

Each group will be called the ‘Village Defence Group’ and shall be headed by a retired officer of the Army/Central Para Military Force (CPMF)/J&K Police.

All VDGs are eligible for a monthly remuneration.

The VDGs also function under the supervision of district superintendent of police(SP)/Senior superintendent of police(SSP).

During 2018-19, the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying,
Government of India created a dedicated fund, Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) with a total funds size of Rs 7522.48 crore.
FIDF envisages creation of fisheries infrastructure facilities both in marine and inland fisheries sectors and augment the fish production to achieve the target of 15 million tonnes by 2020 set under the Blue Revolution.
Besides, the FIDF aims to achieve a sustainable growth of 8-9 per cent, in a move to augment the country’s
fish production to the level of about 20 million tonnes by 2022-23.
Under the FIDF, the Department of Fisheries provides interest subvention up to 3% per annum for providing the concessional finance by the NLEs at the interest rate not lower than 5% per annum.
Loan lending period
under FIDF is five years from 2018-19 to 2022-23 and maximum repayment period of 12 years inclusive of moratorium of 2 years on repayment of principal.
National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad is the Nodal Implementing Agency for
FIDF Scheme.
NFDB receives proposals from eligible entities, undertakes scrutiny of proposals and place it before the Central Approval & Monitoring Committee (CAMC) for approval.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru recently revealed that the Dengue virus in India has evolved dramatically.

About Dengue Fever:

It is an illness spread by the bite of mosquitos infected with one of the dengue viruses.
It is spread by Aedes mosquitos, which also carry viruses like Zika and chikungunya. 
The virus is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, including Central and South America, Africa, parts of Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Mild dengue fever causes a high fever and flu-like symptoms.
The severe form of dengue fever, also called dengue hemorrhagic fever, can cause serious bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure (shock) and death.
It isn’t contagious from person to person except when passed from a pregnant person to their child.
Treatment: There is no specific treatment for dengue. The focus is on treating pain symptoms.
