Living Robots: Xenobots

Scientists in the United States have created the world’s first “living robots” named “xenobots”.
The robot is tiny and built from the cells of the frog.
named after the species of aquatic frog Xenopus laevis (found in Nigeria and Sudan)
this is for the first time that completely biological machines are designed from scratch
The xenobots can move toward a target, perhaps pick up a payload and even heal themselves after being cut.
Applications contamination, gathering microplastic in the oceans etc.

DigiYatra

The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), run by GMR, announced the soft launch of the Centre’s DigiYatra initiative, rolling out the beta version of its app for Android platforms.

DigiYatra , the passenger processing system based on facial recognition technology, has been piloted at the Delhi airport and has had the required infrastructure set up at the airport’s Terminal 3.
DigiYatra envisages that travellers pass through various checkpoints at the airport through paperless and contactless processing, using facial features to establish their identity, which would be linked to the boarding pass.

2023-05-09 18:14:03 BioSentinel

Why in News : NASA’s Artemis I mission will send yeast to deep space with BioSentinel.

NASA’s BioSentinel will carry microorganisms to deep space to help scientists better understand the effects of deep space radiation on biological lifeforms.

The primary objective of BioSentinel is to monitor the vital signs of yeast to see how the microorganism fare when exposed to the radiation of deep space.
Yeast cells have biological mechanisms that are like human cells, including DNA damage and repair.
Due to this, scrutinising yeast in space will help us better understand the risks of space radiation to humans as the space agency plans missions to the Moon and beyond.
For this, BioSentinel will study yeast cell growth and metabolic activity after exposure to a high-radiation environment.
A key component of BioSentinel’s mission is a novel biosensor. NASA refers to it as a “miniature biotechnology laboratory” that is designed to measure how living yeast cells respond to long-term space radiation exposure.
BioSentinel is just one of the Artemis I mission’s ten secondary payloads that will hitch a ride to deep space.
All these satellites are mounted in the Orion stage adapter on the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
