Shamsher Bahadur Singh, the chief poet of post-independence Hindi poetry, was born on January 13, 1911 in Dehradun (Uttarakhand).
He did his early education from Dehradun and High School-Inter from Gonda.
Shamsher Bahadur Singh was the poet of 'Doosra Tar Saptak'.
Shamsher Bahadur Singh took art training from famous painters Ukil-brothers from Allahabad University.
Shamsher, who created unique poetic images, was not only an extraordinary poet, but also a unique prose writer.
Through prose compositions like 'Doab', 'Plat Ka Morcha', he can be recognized as a distinguished prose writer.
Kuch Kavitayen, Kuch aur Kavitayen, Chuka Bhi Nhi Hun Mein, Itne Pass Apne, Kaal Tujse Hod hai meri (poetry collection); Kuch Gadhya Rachnayen, Kuch Aur Gadhya Rachanayen (prose-collections) etc. are his main works.
He had important contribution in the editing of 'Rupabh', 'Kahani', 'Naya Sahitya', 'Maya', 'Naya Path', 'Manohar Kahaniyan' etc.
Shamsher Bahadur Singh was the editor in Urdu-Hindi dictionary project and was the president of 'Premchand Srijanpeeth' of Vikram University.
Shamsher Bahadur Singh received Sahitya Akademi in the year 1977, Maithili Sharan Gupta Award in the year 1987 and Kabir Samman in the year 1989.
He died on May 12, 1993.

Mrinalini Sarabhai was born on May 11, 1918 in Kerala
Mrinalini Sarabhai spent most of her childhood in Switzerland. Here, from 'Dalcruz School', she learned dance techniques from western techniques. She had also received education from Shantiniketan.
Mrinalini Sarabhai returned to India and trained in Bharatanatyam under renowned dancer Gana Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai and then trained in South Indian classical dance and the classical dance-drama of Kathakali under legendary guru Thakazhi Kunchu Kurup.
She was a famous classical dancer of India. She was known as 'Amma'. In view of her contribution and achievements in classical dance, the Government of India honored her with 'Padma Bhushan'.
Her husband Vikram Sarabhai was a well-known physicist of the country. Her daughter Mallika Sarabhai is also a famous dancer and social worker.
Mrinalini's elder sister Lakshmi Sehgal was a freedom fighter. She was the Commander-in-Chief of the Jhansi Regiment, the women's army of the Azad Hind Fauj of the famous revolutionary Subhash Chandra Bose.
Mrinalini Sarabhai was also honored with 'Padma Shri' by the Government of India.
'University of East Anglia', Novitch UK also awarded her Doctorate. She was also nominated to the Executive Committee by the 'International Dance Council Paris'.
The famous 'Darpana Academy' was founded by Mrinalini Sarabhai.
Mrinalini Sarabhai died on 21 January 2016 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Every year on May 11, 'National Technology Day' is organized all over India.
On this day India successfully tested nuclear bombs at Pokhran on May 11, 1998.
The nuclear missile was tested at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan. This was the second test conducted after Operation Smiling Buddha at Pokhran-I in May, 1974.
India successfully tested its Shakti-1 nuclear missile in an operation named Pokhran-II, known as 'Operation Shakti', which was led by the then President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
The day was first observed on May 11, 1999, with the aim of commemorating the scientific and technological achievements of Indian scientists, engineers. The day was named by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
India's first indigenous aircraft 'Hansa-3' was also tested in Bengaluru on 11 May itself.
India also conducted successful firing test of Trishul missile on the same day.
Every year the Indian Technology Development Board (a statutory body under the Ministry of Science and Technology) celebrates this day by conferring National Awards on individuals for their contribution to science and technology in India.
Technology Development Board is a statutory body of the Government of India which functions under the Department of Science and Technology.
It provides financial assistance to Indian industries and other agencies for commercialization of indigenous technologies or adaptation of imported technologies for wider domestic applications.
