2023-05-01 11:08:19 International Labours' Day
Every year on May 1, 'May Day' or 'International Labours' Day' is celebrated in many parts of the world with the aim of marking the contribution of labours in building a new society.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is an agency of the United Nations that works towards making international labour standards.
Labour Day was recognized in the historic labour union movement of America in the 19th century.
For the first time in 1889, an international federation of socialist groups and trade unions designated May 1 as 'May Day' in support of labours, in commemoration of the 'Haymarket' riot in Chicago (1886).
The 'Haymarket' riot was a peaceful rally in support of the labour which resulted in violent confrontation with the police in which several people died and some were seriously injured. Those who died in this skirmish were honored as 'Haymarket Martyrs'.
In July, 1889, a resolution was passed by the first 'International Congress of Socialist Parties' in Europe declaring that May 1 would be celebrated as International Labours' Day/May Day. After this, 1st May Day was celebrated on May 1, 1890.
After the Russian Revolution (1917), Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc nations started celebrating Labour Day.
Labour Day was organized for the first time in India on May 1, 1923 in Chennai (then Madras). This initiative was first taken by Singaravelu, the head of the Labour Kisan Party of India.
In India, Labor Day or May Day is also known as 'Kamgar Din' and International Labor Day.

2023-04-29 07:44:59 International Dance Day
● Every year on 29 April, International Dance Day is organized globally.
● The objective of the 41st International Dance Day is to highlight the importance of dance among the masses and to give dance its due place in all systems of education across the world.
● The day was initiated by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute of UNESCO on April 29, 1982, on the birthday of great dancer Jean-Georges Navarre.
● Dance is an art form consisting of sequences of body movements with aesthetic and often symbolic value, either improvised or purposefully selected.
● Bharata Muni's 'Natyasastra' (2nd century BC) is available as an ancient treatise on classical dance, which is the source-book of drama, dance and musical arts.
● Indian dance is divided into two categories- (i) classical dances (ii) folk and tribal dances. While classical dance is scriptural and disciplined, folk and tribal dances are conducted by local and tribal groups of different states and they do not have any fixed rules-steps or discipline.
● 'Nrityam-2023' is being organized on April 29, 2023, on the occasion of International Dance Day, under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Indian Folk Arts Board, Udaipur.
