Ganga River The Ganges or Ganga, is a trans-boundary river of South Asia which
flows through India and Bangladesh. It
originates from the Gangotri Glacier in Uttarakhand, and flows south and east through the Gangetic Plain of India and Bangladesh, eventually
emptying into the Bay of Bengal. Tributaries :
Left : Ramganga, Gomati, Ghaghara, Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Kosi, Mahananda and Brahmaputra
Right : Yamuna, Tamsa, Sone, Punpun, phalgu, kiul, Karamnasa, Chandan, Damodar
The river is home to reptiles and mammals, including critically endangered species such as the
Gharial and
South Asian river dolphin (
Gangetic Dolphin)
The Ganges is a
sacred river to Hindus along every fragment of its length and considered as
mother Godess.
