WHITE PHOSPHORUS WEAPONS

● In News: Recently in news due to Russia-Ukraine war

● Ban Weapons against civilians: Weapons containing phosphorus are incendiary arms whose use against civilians is banned.

● But they can be deployed against military targets under a 1980 convention signed in Geneva.

RED PHOSPHORUS used in:
-> Producing fertilizers, pyrotechnics.
-> Matchsticks- for lighting a fire.
-> Emergency signals- help in the ignition process.

✓ In News: Recently researchers at IIT Kanpur have developed an organic solar cell on steel substrates.

✓ Conversion: It can convert a steel roof into an energy producing device.

✓ OSCs are one of the emerging photovoltaic (PV) technologies and are classified as 3rd generation solar cells with organic polymer material as the light absorbing layer.

✓ In News: The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) Pune, has detected a radio signal originating from an extremely distant galaxy.

ABOUT ATOMIC HYDROGEN:

✓ Atomic hydrogen is the basic fuel required for star formation in a galaxy.

✓ When hot ionized gas from the surrounding medium of a galaxy falls onto the universe, the gas cools and forms atomic hydrogen.

✓ This atomic hydrogen then becomes molecular hydrogen & eventually leads to the formation of stars.

✓ Atomic hydrogen emits radio waves of 21 cm wavelength, which helps in the direct tracing of the atomic gas content in nearby and distant galaxies.

- In News: Scientists have created “synthetic” mouse embryos from stem cells without a dad's sperm or a mom's egg or womb.

- Stem cells are special cells that are able to develop into many different cell types such as muscle cells, blood cells, and brain cells.

Three Main Types Of Stem Cells:

1. Embryonic stem cells (supply new cells for an embryo as it grows and develops into a baby)

2. Adult stem cells (supply new cells as an organism grows and to replace cells that get damaged)

3. Induced pluripotent stem cells (stem cells that scientists make in laboratory)

BLACK HOLE

● A black hole is an object in space that is so dense and has such strong gravity that no matter or light can escape its pull. Because no light can escape, it is black and invisible.

-> The inner region of a black hole, where the object's mass lies, is known as its singularity, the single point in space-time where the mass of the black hole is concentrated.

● The Event Horizon: of a black hole is the boundary around the mouth of the black hole, past which light cannot escape.

-> Once a particle crosses the event horizon, it cannot leave. Gravity is constant across the event horizon.

● Tidal Disruption Events (TDEs): It refers to an event when a black hole violently rips apart stars that gets too close.
