Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayan 'Agyeya'
⬧ Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayan, popularly known as 'Agyeya', was born on March 7, 1911.
⬧ He was born in Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), but spent his childhood in Lucknow, Srinagar and Jammu.
⬧ His early education was in English and Sanskrit and later he learned Hindi.
⬧ Agyeya was initially a science student and after doing B.Sc, he took admission in MA English.
⬧ Due to participation in the revolutionary movement, he had to leave his studies midway.
⬧ He was also a professor at Jodhpur University.
⬧ He was the founder editor of the famous Hindi news weekly Dinman.
⬧ He also edited Navbharat Times for a few days. Apart from this, he edited many literary magazines like Sainik, Vishal Bharat, Prateek, Naya Prateek etc.
⬧ He has a wide influence on Hindi poetry after independence. Initiating the Saptak tradition, he edited Tar Saptak, Dusara Saptak, Tisra Saptak. The poems of seven poets are collected in each Saptak, which reveals the poetic consciousness of several decades of the century.
⬧ Agyeya has done writing work in many literary genres like story, novel, travelogue, essay, criticism etc. along with poetry. Shekhar - A Biography, River Islands, Apne-apne Ajnabee (Novel), Arre Yayavar Rahega Yaad, Ek Boond Sahasa Uchhali (Travelogue), Trishanku, Atmane Pad (Essay), Vipathaga, Parampara, Kothri Ki Baat, Sharanarthi, Jaidol and Yeh Tere Pratirup (story collection) are his major works.
⬧ Agyeya is the poet of nature-love and the conflicts of human-mind. His poetry urges the freedom of the individual and also the expansion of intellectuality. He has developed Hindi poetic language, trying to give new meaning to words. He has received many awards, including Sahitya Akademi Award, Bharat Bharti Samman and Bharatiya Jnanpith Award.
⬧ His main poetic works include Bhagnadoot, Chinta, Hari Ghas Par Kshanbhar, Indradanush Ronde Hue Ye, Angan Ke Par Dvar, Kitni Navon me Kitni Bar etc.
⬧ The compilation of complete poems of Agyeya has been published in two parts named Sadanira.
⬧ Agyeya died on 4 April 1987 in New Delhi.
