2023-04-21 06:53:40 National Civil Service Day
Every year on 21 April 'National Civil Services Day' is organized in India.
It is celebrated as a token of appreciation to all the officials engaged in various public departments of the country, who work tirelessly to run the administrative machinery of India.
The day also serves as a reminder for the civil servants working in various departments to above all serve the citizens of the country.
The first Civil Services Day in India was organized on April 21, 2006 at Vigyan Bhavan.
On April 21, 1947, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the first batch of civil servants in independent India at Metcalf House. It is known that in his motivational speech, he called civil servants the 'Steel Frame of India'.
On the same day in the national capital, civil servants are also awarded by the Prime Minister of India for their excellence.
After the end of the East India Company, in 1886, the name of the CSS was changed to the Imperial Civil Service and it was under the British Crown.
Later, in the same year, it was announced by the Aitchison Commission that Indians should also be employed in public services. Thus, the Imperial Civil Service was renamed the Indian Civil Service.
For the first time in the history of India, the Indian Civil Services Examination was conducted in the year 1922.
On October 1, 1926, the Public Service Commission of India was established under the chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker.
In the year 1924, the name of All India Services was changed to Central Superior Services.
Since the availability of Europeans decreased after 1939, the number of Indians in the service increased.
After the year 1947, the Indian Civil Service became the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Satyendranath Tagore was the first person to become an IAS officer in India.
The National Civil Services Day of the year 2023 is being organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
