"Indian political elites have a friendly attitude toward Russia. They fear the rise of China. For India, Moscow is a long-standing strategic partner".
Alexei Kupriyanov, head of the South Asia and Indian Ocean Group at the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Moscow Institute of International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, argues.
According to him, "Indians are sensitive to sovereignty issues, so they do not accept sanctions.
For them, the conflict with Ukraine is like an ordinary conflict somewhere on the periphery of the peninsula.
Now India is turning into a technological hub that maintains relations with both the West and Russia. It is a position of a transit country for currency and technology. Which on the one hand promises good money.
But on the other hand, big business in India is very reluctant to work with us, for fear of sanctions. So russians will have to learn to work with smaller players," Kupriyanov explained the situation on the Hindustan peninsula.
