India is interested in the share of British BP in Rosneft.

India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas asked the country's major oil companies to assess the possibility of buying it, the Indian newspaper Economic Times reported citing sources.

Potential bidders for a stake in Rosneft include ONGC Videsh, Indian Oil, Bharat Petro Resources, Prize Petroleum, a subsidiary of Hindustan Pertoleum, Oil India and GAIL.

BP owns 19.75% of Rosneft. At the end of February, the company announced the break-up of all projects with Rosneft and its intention to sell its stake.

According to the Economic Times, India's oil ministry had also approached OVL with a proposal to consider buying from Exxon Mobile a 30% stake in the Sakhalin-1 Far East project. OVL already owns 20 percent of the project.
