Distant decay law is a part of ? Laws of migration developed by Ravenstein.

The laws of Ravenstein are;

1. The majority of migrants go only a short distance (distance decay law)

2. Migration proceeds step by step

3. Migrants going long distance generally go by preference to one of the great centres of commerce or industry.

4. Each current of migration produces a countercurrent of lesser strength.

5. The natives of towns are less migratory than those of rural areas.

6. females migrate more frequently than males within the country of birth, but males frequently venture beyond

7. Most migrants are adults

8. large towns grow more by migration than by natural increase

9. The main causes of migration are economic.

What will be the consequences in the place of destination? Before that, place of destination means? The location to which migration is occurring.

Generally, migrants are dominated by male population. (In developed countries, it is female population, generally). When large male population reach a location. male - female ratio is modified. The sex ratio is reduced, owing to the large incoming male population.

Density of population? Increase or decrease? Increase only, as more people are arriving to the destination location.

Crime rates get increased with increasing migration.

As human resource is increased, exploitation of resources will also be increased.

Mobility transition theory of Zelinsky

Zelinsky formulated the laws titled the hypothesis of mobility transition.

The term is derived from the concept of demographic transition model.

How many stages are there ?? 5 stages.
1. Premodern traditional society;
There is a minimal residential migration and only limited human mobility.

2. The early transitional society:
Due to population explosion in this period, rural to urban movements start to take place. Increased population migration in all scales.

3. The late transitional society;
The third face matches the third stage of the demographic transition model. Reduced rate of migration.

4. The advance the society:
low birth rate and death rate bring little or marginal population growth. Migration is predominantly inter urban and intra urban.

5. Future, super advanced society

The first Scholar to formulate the laws of migration was E G Ravenstein. Based on case studies in?? Britain.

The laws of Ravenstein are;

Modified version of Ravenstein model was made by?? Everett Lee.

No. Global population does not show exponential growth currently. Now, growth has been more similar to a linear trend.

For population growth to be exponential, the growth rate would have be the same over time (e.g. 2% growth every year). In absolute terms, this would result in an exponential increase in the number of people. That’s because we’d be multiplying an ever-larger number of people by the same 2%. 2% of the population this year would be larger than 2% last year, and so on; this means the population would grow exponentially.

However, since the 1960s the growth rate has been falling. This means the world population is not growing exponentially – for decades now, growth has been more similar to a linear trend.

The global population growth rate peaked long ago.

The global population growth reached a peak in 1962 and 1963 with an annual growth rate of 2.2%; but since then, world population growth has declined. (Decline in growth rate, not the absolute population, please remember.)

The absolute increase of the population per year has peaked in the late 1980s at over 90 million additional people each year. But it stayed high until recently. From now on the UN expects the annual increase to decline by around 1 million every year.

The fastest doubling of the world population happened between 1950 and 1987: a doubling from 2.5 to 5 billion people in just 37 years — the population doubled within a little more than one generation. This period was marked by a peak population growth of 2.1% in 1962.

Since then, population growth has been slowing, and along with it the doubling time.

We cannot touch or see the quality of life but just sense it.

How will we quantify the quality of life? We cannot do that perfectly. We can quantify the standard of living by calculating per capita income and such measures. Just like this, we can quantify the population growth, human development etc. But when it comes to quality of life it is complicated.

See, what if I am poor in monetary basis and very rich with good health and a peaceful life? So I am living a happy life. What is the quality of life other than this!

Thus, second statement which saying quality of life is a tangible concept is incorrect.
