The First Carnatic War (1746-48 AD)
- The First Carnatic War was fought between 1746–1748 AD. This war was influenced by the '‘War of Succession of Austria'’, which started from 1740 AD. Because France and Britain were strongly opposed to each other in Europe, this opposition also had an impact in India, resulting in a war between the British and the French Army in 1746 AD. The war was initiated by the British. best study channel-study for civil services
- The First Carnatic War is commemorated for the Battle of '‘Saint Tomé'’ (1748 AD). This war was fought between the French Army and Nawab Anwaruddin of Karnataka. The quarrel was over the conquest of Madras by the French, which resulted in the favor of the French, because the French army led by '‘Captain Paradise'’ defeated the Indian army under the leadership of Mahfuz Khan at a place called Saint Tomé on the Admar River.
- The Austrian War of Succession, which began in 1740, and was also indirectly responsible for the First Carnatic War, ended in Europe by the '‘Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle’ concluded in 1748 AD. Under this treaty, the First Carnatic War also ended and the French returned the Madras to the British according to the terms fixed in the treaty.
