[Polity] RTE: 25% Quota cancelled if govt school within 1km of pvt school- but Bombay HC says no- 2009: Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, also known as the RTE Act
- RTE requires
(1) Private schools to give 25% admission quota of Class 1 students to “weaker section and disadvantaged group in the neighbourhood.
(2) Pvt School need to give fee concession to these quota students
(3) State government need to pay subsidy to the private school to cover up the fee-concession/fee-loss.
- Kerala (2011), Karnataka (2018), Maharashtra (2024) : These state governments made rules - if there is a government school within 1 km radius of the private school, then private school need not give admission quota.
- 2024-May: Bombay HC stays above step taken by Maharashtra State Government.
