❖ Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy was born on May 19, 1913 in Illur village, Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
❖ Neelam Sanjiva Reddy's primary education was completed at 'Theosophical High School' Adyar, Madras and further education was completed at Arts College, Anantapur.
❖ On the call of Mahatma Gandhi, when lakhs of youths were joining the freedom struggle by sacrificing their studies and jobs, Neelam Sanjeev Reddy jumped into this movement only at the age of 18.
❖ Sanjeeva Reddy also participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement.
❖ Reddy was elected General Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee in the year 1936 and spent more than 10 years in this post.
❖ Neelam Sanjiva Reddy also used to handle the works of the Ministry of Residential Forests and Alcohol Prohibition in the cabinet of Kumaraswamy Raja in the United Madras State.
❖ In the year 1951, he resigned from the post of minister to participate in the election for the post of President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee and Elected as the president by defeating Professor N.G.Ranga.
❖ In the year 1956, when the reorganization of states was done, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy became the 'First Chief Minister' of Andhra Pradesh.
❖ Reddy entered national politics on June 9, 1964 and Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri gave him the Ministry of Steel and Mines at the Center.
❖ Reddy was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in the year 1964 and remained its member till the year 1967.
❖ From January 1966 to March 1967, he remained in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. He looked after the work of Transport, Shipping, Civil Aviation and Tourism as a cabinet minister.
❖ When the Lok Sabha elections were called in the year 1971, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy contested on Congress ticket but had to face defeat.
❖ In January 1977, he was made a member of the working committee of the Janata Party and in the sixth Lok Sabha election, he filed his nomination papers from the Nandyal seat of Andhra Pradesh on behalf of the Janata Party. When the results of the election came, he was the only non-Congress candidate from Andhra Pradesh who emerged victorious.
❖ Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Venkateswara University, Trimurti in the year 1958.
❖ Reddy was elected unopposed President of India on July 25, 1977 and after completing his term on July 25, 1982, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was relieved of the responsibility of the post of President.
❖ He died on June 1, 1996.
