How many Prelims tests should you give?
Different toppers have different answers. Some say 100, others say 30.
Is there a "RIGHT" answer?
Making sense of Prelims mock tests:
First
Just giving X number of tests doesn't guarantee you will clear Prelims.
It just means that you spent 2X hours giving mock tests.
It's what you do with those tests that will determine your success/failure in Prelims 2022.
At the same time
Just because there is no "guarantee" doesn't mean that you don't give tests.
Tests are a means to assess your UPSC prep and a necessity in competitive exams.
So how many should you give? AT LEAST 15.
What this magic number?
• 2 section tests/subject - total 12
• 3 full tests
Subjects - his, polity, eco, enviro, geo, S&T
Based on how you score on those 15 tests you might need to give more tests.
But that's the base line.
What if I'm not scoring well in these 15 tests?
• Review the solutions.
• Revise the books.
• Give more tests.
How many more?
Till you're comfortable with your prep.
YOUR Judgement
Nobody knows your strengths and weaknesses like you do. Thus, it is up to YOU to figure out the exact number of tests you need to give.
Numbers are helpful only up to a point. Beyond that, it's your judgement that matters.
