Launch of Digi Yatra-

Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia launched Digi Yatra on December 1, 2022 from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi to three airports in the country, New Delhi, Varanasi and Bengaluru.
Digi Yatra is conceived to achieve contactless, seamless processing of passengers at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT).
Digi Yatra in the first phase, will be launched at 7 airports. However, it has been initially launched at 3 airports i.e., Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi today, to be followed by 4 airports namely Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Vijayawada by March 2023. Later it would be implemented across various airports in the country. The service is presently being launched for domestic flights passengers only. Digi Yatra App is available on both IoS and android. It is voluntary is nature.

What is DigiYatra?

DigiYatra envisages that travellers pass through various checkpoints at the airport through paperless and contactless process- ing, using facial features to establish their identity, which would be linked to the boarding pass. With this technology, the entry of passengers would be automati- cally processed - including entry into the airport, security check areas, aircraft board- ing, etc.

Who will implement it?

The project is being implemented by the DigiYatra Foundation-a joint-venture company.
