2021-02-18 08:25:08 All gas stocks are up today on PM's statement that govt is committed to bring natural gas under GST. (Sales note by brokerage)

Inclusion of gas in GST helps to:

a) to reduce gas cost by 10-15% making gas more competitive vs alternative liquid fuels and driving up gas consumption; hence can help to boost volume for various gas companies and strengthen their pricing power – this is assuming gas is brought in GST in the lower slab.

b) gas companies to claim input tax credit (currently it is stranded as they are not able to offset as gas is not under GST).

The above if it happens is positive for all gas companies - particularly CGD companies (IGL, MGL, GGas) and also other gas companies (PLNG, GSPL, GAIL). Difficult to quantify the impact, companies have also not been guiding on the potential positive impact if gas is included in GST.

Govt has been trying to get Gas under GST for last couple of years, but state govt has not been willing due to likely hit to their revenues (primarily for Maharashtra and Gujarat). ओपन / कमेंट
