1) India ended a long, excruciating wait of 41 years as they bagged the bronze medal in men’s hockey after defeating Germany 5-4 in the play-off at the Tokyo Olympics.
➨ It is India's third hockey bronze medal in the history of the Olympics. The other two came in 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 Munich Games.

2) The first goods train carrying stone chips to Bangladesh through the revived Haldibari – Chilahati rail link leaves from Damdim station of Alipurduar Division in Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
➨The Haldibari – Chilahati rail link between India and the then East Pakistan was operational till 1965. This was part of the Broad Gauge main route from Kolkata to Siliguri during partition.

3) Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar becomes the first Indian Navy ship to call at the heritage coastal port of Gopalpur in Odisha. The two-day visit which concluded on 02 Aug 21, was organised as part of Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence.

4) NITI Aayog released a report that presents reform pathways that can transform the country's power distribution sector, in a step towards improving policymaking in this area. The report, titled Turning Around the Power Distribution Sector, is co-authored by NITI Aayog, RMI and RMI India.

5) Noted author and Padma Shri awardee Padma Sachdev, the first modern woman poet of Dogri language, passed away at a Mumbai hospital.
➨She authored many books in Dogri and Hindi, and her poetry collections, including Meri Kavita Mere Geet, won her the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971. She received the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2001 and was awarded the Kabir Samman for poetry for 2007-08 by the Madhya Pradesh government.

6) To safeguard the interest of its customers, the country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a new and enhanced security feature – ‘SIM Binding’ in Yono and Yono Lite.
