GS III- Strategy

Economy
1 Unlike eco prep for prelims which basically demands conceptual clarity, the mains prep basically needs 1.5-2 page analytical notes over a certain list of topics.
2 These topics are your syllabus keywords, major current themes (eg. National infra pipeline) and repeated themes from PYQ (eg: inclusive growth)
3 I relied on Dipin Sir’s notes + Santosh Sir (level up IAS) notes + Vision IAS Mains 365. I tried to solve PYQs as well.

Agriculture
1 This was one of my most favourite sections of the syllabus. It is interesting, exciting, predictable and rewarding.
2 If you see the marks distribution, Economy and Agriculture both have 50 marks and therefore this deserves respect and attention.
3 The questions are mostly keyword centric. And a cursory look at PYQs, current affairs and questions asked in test series will tell you exactly the themes you need to focus on.
4 Your notes need to have introduction, data, major challenges, solutions–innovative +government policies and a blockbuster conclusion with keywords like “evergreen revolution”, “rainbow revolution” and specific mention of an array of government schemes
5 I used some basic notes of Anupam Sir (Smartwork labs) +current affairs (Santosh Sir, Level up IAS) and combined it with readings of Varun Gandhi’s “The Rural Manifesto” and made my own notes of it.

Science & Tech
1 Most themes can be identified through current affairs. So a year end compilation works.
2 However, there are few evergreen themes as well which can be identified through PYQs and syllabus keywords. For eg–IPR, Three stage nuclear energy policy etc.
3 Make Diagrams for ALL POSSIBLE topics, it will fetch you brownie points. For eg, in the question on biotech, I had prepared an diagram of how biotech in Bt cotton works and I drew the same in the final paper.
4 For my Prelims Prep, I had done S&T from Santosh Sir (Level Up IAS), so what I did is that in those very notes I added a diagram, introduction and conclusion.
5 For the random questions that elude anybody’s preparation, for eg- Blue LED, what I did was the following
• used common sense to define it
• had a framework where I applied the concept to every keyword in the GS 3 syllabus– for eg, the application of AI in the economy, agriculture, environmental conservation, disaster management, internal security.
• I did this for all my S&T answers, but especially for the bouncers. This is a sure-shot way of generating an adequate and multidimensional set of points for all questions.
