The Inter-State Council:

• The Inter-State Council was established "to facilitate Centre-State and Inter-State coordination and collaboration in India." #GKbyMilitaryChoice

• It was formed in accordance with Article 263 of the Constitution, which authorises the President to form such a committee if deemed necessary.

• The Sarkaria Commission proposed the Council as a permanent organisation in 1988, and it was established by Presidential Order in 1990.

• The Prime Minister presides over the Council, which is made up of Chief Ministers from all states and UTs with Legislative Assemblies, as well as Administrators from other UTs.

• The Council must convene at least three times every year.

• The Council also has a Standing Committee. The Standing Committee is chaired by the union home minister, with 5 Cabinet Ministers and 9 Chief Ministers of States selected by the Chairman of the Inter-State Council as members.
