Nagarjuna Sagar Dam:

It is situated across the Krishna river in Nagarjuna Sagar which is at the border between Guntur Dt. of Andhra Pradesh and Nalgonda Dt. of Telangana.

It was opened in 1967.

This dam is used for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation.

Jawahar canal, Lal Bahadur Shastri canal and Alimineti Madhava Reddy lift irrigation canal draw water for irrigation.

It is the world's largest masonry dam and second biggest reservoir in India.

The dam construction submerged Nagarjunakonda, an ancient Buddhist settlement and capital of Ikshavaku dynasty.

It led to the shrinkage of Kolleru lake and land salination in coastal areas.
