Danakil Depression
Belongs to northern part of Afar Triangle or Afar Depression in Ethiopia
It is a geological depression formed as a result of divergence of three tectonic plates in Horn of Africa region
It is the hottest place on Earth in terms of year-round average temperatures
Fossils of ancient Hominis like that of Lucy (Australopithecus), etc. were found here
The area is also famous for Salt Mining
Magnesium-dominated brines (that cause cells to break down) and an environment with simultaneously very low pH and high salt makes the area uninhabitable to any lifeform
