• The Income-tax Department has carried out search and seizure action on 21.06.2021 on a Raipur based hawala operator. Four premises at Raipur were covered in the action. The modus operandi involved not only giving accommodation entries of sale, purchase etc. to people, but also transportation and end-use facilitation of unaccounted money. Preliminary estimates suggest that hawala transactions exceeding Rs. 100 crore may be involved.
• In order to infuse greater transparency and uniformity in practice, the RBI has decided to prescribe guidelines on the distribution of dividends by NBFCs. These guidelines shall be applicable to all NBFCs regulated by RBI and shall be effective for declaration of dividend from the profits of the financial year ending March 31, 2022, and onwards.
• The MCA has issued clarification with regard to holding of EGMs. After due examination, the MCA has decided to allow companies to conduct their EGMs through VC/ OVCM or transact item through postal ballot up to Dec 31, 2021.
• Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB), a joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the OECD, launched its programme in Bhutan in partnership with India. The programme aims to strengthening tax administration of Bhutan by transferring technical know-how and skills to its tax auditors, and through sharing of best audit practices.
• To ease the compliance burden on tax deductor and tax collector in complying with provisions of sections 206AB and 206CCA, the CBDT has introduced a new functionality "Compliance Check for Sections 206AB amp; 206CCA". Now the board has laid down the procedure for using such functionality.
