History of Yellow and Red cards Yellow and red cards were introduced at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico
The English referee named Ken Aston was the man behind this invention, he was also the member of FIFA Referees Committee during that time
In 1966 World Cup quarter final match played between England and Argentina, Argentine captain Rattin was controversially send off the pitch by the referee and leading to the defeat of Argentina, next morning Aston came to know that two English players were also had been booked in that match, but they didn't knew about it. He realised the need of solving this problem and driving home that day when he approached the traffic lights, the yellow and red colours attracted him and eventually leading to the invention of yellow and red cards.
